Operation Management-Project Management

Q • Pick an example of a problem/situation requiring project management. Use p.76 in the text as your guide to create the table/matrix. You should show the dependencies, activity time, earliest start, earliest finish, latest start, latest finish, and slack time for each activity in your WBS. Also denote which activities are on the critical path. o create the Work Breakdown Structure . Use MS Excel or MS WORD and upload to CANVAS. o identify the activities and relationships among the activities required to successfully deliver the project (i.e. Decide which activities must precede or immediately follow other activities. Also, you may decide that some activities can occur concurrently/in parallel with each other. You must have a minimum of 8 underlying Activities. At least 2 of the 8 Activities must not have any dependencies on the other Activities) o Assign time estimates for each activity (i.e. estimated start and end dates for each activity) o Identify the critical path in your project - i.e. the longest time path to complete the project. • Factor-Rating Method for Expansion of Global Operations (see p.345 Example 1 as example). Using MS Excel, apply a similar approach to a business of your choice and upload to CANVAS. Ensure that you have at least two expansion location options. • Location Cost Volume Analysis for Manufacturer (see p.346 Example 2 as example). Using MS Excel, apply a similar approach to a business of your choice and upload to CANVAS. You may make assumptions for the estimates you use for expected volume units sold for the year, sales price per unit, fixed costs for each location, and variable costs per unit for each location. YOU MAY SKIP THE CROSSOVER POINT CALCULATION TOWARD THE END OF THE EXERCISE. • Center of Gravity Analysis for Store Location (see p.348 Example 3 as example). Assume that the number of containers shipped per month to Chicago is expected to grow quickly to 4,000 per month. How does this info change the center of gravity, and where should the new warehouse be located? Use MS Excel and upload to CANVAS.
